Senior Wellness

We all want our cats to live as long and as happily as possible. The best way to ensure this happens is through regular checkups and optimal nutrition. Early detection of changes in an aging cat’s health allows you to do more to help your special companion.

The Guelph Cat Clinic recommends our Golden Wellness Plan for senior cats. It includes:

"What greater gift than the love of a cat?" Charles Dickens (English Writer (1812-1870))

Annual Visit

Reason

 Physical examination including
dental assessment, cardiac exam and evaluation of mobility
Screening for any possible health concerns
Blood and urine tests  Detects common silent senior diseases such as kidney disease, hyperthyroid and diabetes
Blood pressure check may be recommended  Screens for hypertension (high blood pressure) which can lead to sudden blindness
Assess vaccines needed  Vaccine recommendations will vary with your cat’s age and lifestyle (indoor vs outdoor)
Discussion of behavioural changes  Changes in behaviour or attitude may give us clues to your cats overall health
Deworming or fecal examination  Depends on your cats lifestyle
Nail trim  Important because older cats may not care for their own nails as well as when they were younger
Dietary recommendations  Your cat’s nutritional needs change with age and certain diseases
